When Success Starts to Feel Like a Trap

A reflection on how traditional definitions of success can quietly fuel burnout—and how exhaustion can become an invitation to realign with purpose and authenticity.
When Success Starts to Feel Like a Trap

As leaders, caregivers, and professionals, we’re taught to push through — to stay strong, to keep showing up, to keep performing. But what happens when the very things that once fueled your drive start to drain you instead? When the checklist version of success leaves you feeling disconnected from who you really are?

We’ve all been there — working hard, checking all the boxes, doing everything we thought we were supposed to do. On paper, it looks like success. But inside, it starts to feel heavy. Unfulfilling. Like maybe the path you’ve been walking isn’t yours anymore.

Until one day, the very things that once defined success start to feel like a trap.

That’s where my story begins.

In this week’s episode of Curveball, I share how I burned the old script — and began writing one that actually fit. It wasn’t graceful or easy (in fact, it was often messy), but it was honest. And it led me back to myself, one brave decision at a time.

Because sometimes “worn out and over it” isn’t the end.

It’s the invitation.
